Yesterday, after 7th period, I went to meet up with Mrs. Rapattoni at the middle school. I know she is my mentor but I could not get a hold of my sponsor so I am working with the counselors at the middle school for now. Mrs. Rapattoni suggested that I just pop up at school four and introduce myself to Ms. Burns; this is a good idea but I feel wierd just showing up out of no where. I guess I need to suck it up and just do it!
Anyway, being at the middle school was an interesting experience. Although I was only there for one day so far, I got an idea of some of the issues I will be dealing with when helping young teens. For the most part, their problems are very common- things we have all been through atleast once in our lives, while others are not so common. Listening in during the students' appointments with Mrs. Rapattoni has taught me to be a better listener and I even got to come up with some suggestions/ideas about how one of the students could fix their problem. Ultimately, they are making their own decision on how to handle situations but counselors are there to give options and listen.
I definately think counseling is the job for me and so far, I want to stick with it!

“To listen well, is as powerful a means of influence as to talk well, and is as essential to all true conversation” - Chinese proverb.
